"If music be the food of love, play on!" William Shakespeare

Hello Band parents!

The band students at SGA are very excited to be presenting a Christmas Concert on December 6th, 2021 at 6:30 pm. This will be our first live concert since 2019, and these young musicians are eager to play for a live audience once more (and for the grades 7 and 8’s, for the first time)! Please come out and support these students, and enjoy an hour of wonderful music. The concert will take place in the gym at St. Gabriel the Archangel.

If you have any questions, please email me at:

The St. Gabriel the Archangel Band program provides an enthusiastic, fun, and supportive environment for students to begin, or continue growing their instrumental skills. Focus is placed on fundamental techniques and musical knowledge of the instruments, growing musicianship skills through playing more challenging and diverse repertoire, and becoming appreciators of the arts. We also place a great emphasis on the community aspect of the band, where everyone has a place to belong.

Through our school board, students are able to rent an instrument for only $100 and this includes any repairs that may need to be done, as well as insurance.

Throughout the band season, students will have performance opportunities including a Christmas concert, and a final band concert. In the future, students will also have the chance to participate in our overnight band camp, as well as the Alberta International Band Festival.

We offer a Junior Band for each grade (one band for each of grade 7, grade 8, and grade 9), as well as a High School band, the St. Gabriel the Archangel Symphonic Winds.

The Symphonic Winds runs year-round, and each student receives 8 high school credits per year. The Symphonic Winds rehearse every day during the first semester while completing the course Instrumental Music 10/20/30. In the second semester, the rehearse 2-3 times a week outside of the timetable, and complete a 3 credit Band course. This ensemble also receives more performance opportunities than junior high bands.

All are welcome whether you’ve been practicing for years or are looking to challenge yourself with something new!

If you have any questions or are just curious, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Allen through the school phone or at
